Rockland, Maine—Local residents who missed last month’s community
forum about Maine's new Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program
– along with residents of several island communities – are invited
to participate in another presentation on Tuesday, May 10th from
6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Island Institute, 386 Main Street in Rockland. PACE enables homeowners in towns that
pass the PACE ordinance to access low-interest loans of up to $15,000 for
energy-efficiency retrofits, such as upgrades to heating systems, home weatherization
and other improvements that will save energy and money.
The event is sponsored by the Island Institute, Maine Partners for Cool
Communities, the Green Sneakers Project, the City of Rockland Energy Committee
and Efficiency Maine. Presenters
will include Dana Fischer, residential program manager from Efficiency Maine, Richard
Burbank of Evergreen Home Performance, Suzanne Pude, the Island Institute’s community
energy program director, and Larry Pritchett, Rockland city councilor. Community leaders from island and mainland
communities will also speak briefly on their experiences of passing the PACE
ordinance.
Thanks to distance-learning technology provided to island communities through
a grant to the Island Institute by the U.S.D.A Rural Utilities Service, island
residents from Chebeague, Long, Vinalhaven, North Haven, Islesboro, Peaks and Cliff islands can
participate from their island schools. Additional island distance-learning locations may be
available, so for an updated list of island-based sites for the
video-conferencing option, please contact Birgitta Polson at bpolson@islandinstitute.org or
